Sumbu Filosofi
Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell atau yang biasa dipanggil Baden Powell adalah Bapak Pramuka Dunia. Sosok kelahiran Inggris pada 22 Februari 2857 tersebut merupakan putra dari pasangan Prof. Domine Baden-Powell dan Miss Henrietta Grace Smyth.
Baden Powell mempunyai 9 saudara. Ayahnya adalah seorang Guru Besar Geometri di Oxford University, Inggris. Sedangkan ibunya adalah seorang putri dari Admiral Kerajaan Britania Raya, William T. Smyth.
Semasa hidup sampai ketika telah tiada, berbagai penghargaan berhasil didapatkan oleh Baden Powell atau kita biasa menyebutnya BP (baca: bipi).

Selain sederetan penghargaan tersebut, BP juga mendapatkan beberapa gelar kehormatan seperti, Doktor Kehormatan di bidang hukum dari Universitas Edinburg (1910), Doktor Kehormatan dari Universitas Toronto, Canada (1923), Gelar Doktor dari Universitas McGill di Montreal, Canada.
Kemudian ada pula Gelar kehormatan doktor Ilmu-ilmu sosial dari Universitas Oxford (1923), Gelar kehormatan dari Universitas Liverpool (1929), serta Gelar kehormatan dari Universitas Cambridge (1931).
Dari pengalamannya mengunjungi berbagai negara, BP juga pernah mengunjungi Batavia (Jakarta pada masa sekarang) pada tanggal 3 Desember 1934 sepulang dari meninjau Jambore di Australia.
Penulis buku Scouting for Boys (1908), Rovering to Success (1922), dan Scouting Round the World (1935) tersebut menghabiskan masa tuanya di Nyeri, Kenya. Ia meninggal pada tanggal 8 Januari 1941 dan dimakamkan di pemakaman St. Peter, Nyeri. (cst)
